Rylie’s Wild West Journey: From Camper to Trail Guide, Sharing the Magic of Horses

Every summer, young campers step into a world of adventure at Wild West Campground & Corral. Among the dedicated counselors guiding their journey is Rylie, a passionate trail guide and camp counselor who knows firsthand the magic of this camp.

Her story is one of connection—both to the horses she works with and to the campers she inspires.

Her journey begins

Rylie’s journey with Wild West began long before she donned the title of counselor. As a wide-eyed eight-year-old, she first attended Girls Horse Camp, eager to soak in the experience.

After a brief detour to another camp at age nine, she found herself back at Wild West – drawn by the unparalleled horse time, deep knowledge shared and the unique setup that allows campers to interact with the horses all day, every day.

That immersive experience left a lasting impression, and in July 2024, Rylie officially joined the team.

One of the most rewarding parts of her job? Witnessing the sheer joy on the faces of young riders as they mount their horses for the first time.

“Seeing their eyes sparkle with excitement when they go out for their first ride – that’s the best feeling,” she said. “Those early moments are full of awe, as campers build trust, confidence and lifelong memories with their horses.”

But it’s not just the campers who make this experience special – it’s the horses themselves. Rylie loves working with them because each horse has its own quirks and personality.

“They’re just like people,” she explained. “Each one is different and watching how they interact with each other is fascinating.”

Whether it’s a gentle giant who patiently guides nervous riders or a spirited pony with a mischievous streak, the horses bring a dynamic energy that shapes the camp experience.

Of course, safety is always a priority, and all trail guides and counselors – including Rylie – are fully certified in first aid and CPR. That expertise ensures campers can focus on enjoying their time with the horses while knowing they’re in capable hands.

Rylie’s journey from camper to counselor is proof of how deep the love for Wild West can go. Whether she’s leading a trail ride, offering guidance to new riders or simply soaking in the sights of horses in their element, she embodies the heart and soul of the camp – where passion, adventure and unforgettable memories come to life.
