Your Guide to Girls Horse Camp at Wild West

If you’re reading this on a dreary Wisconsin morning, dreaming of sunshine, dusty trails and the soft thud of hooves on the ground, you’re in the right place. Every summer at Wild West Campground & Corral in Amherst, we watch those dreams come to life through our Girls Horse Camp — an overnight, all‑girls adventure where young riders get to live out their cowgirl story with a horse of their very own.

Many girls arrive for their very first sleepaway camp feeling a little nervous — but by that first evening, they’re already giggling in the cabins and brushing horses side by side with their new best friend. Some of our most dedicated campers started out that way. They came for one summer, returned year after year, and eventually grew into the confident young women who now work for us as counselors. Watching that full-circle journey is one of the greatest joys of running this camp.

With 2026 registration open (and spots already moving fast!), here’s your complete guide to what makes Girls Horse Camp such a transformative experience.

Your Guide to Girls Horse Camp at Wild West

🌟 What Makes Girls Horse Camp So Special?

Girls Horse Camp isn’t just a riding program — it’s full immersion into ranch life, confidence building, and making the kind of friendships that last long after the last campfire ember fades.

Unlike typical day camps or group lessons, our overnight format lets campers fully immerse themselves in ranch life.

The heart of the program? Each girl is assigned her own horse for the entire session. She’ll groom, feed, saddle and ride the same gentle partner day after day — building a real bond that teaches responsibility, patience and empathy.

Ages & Experience Levels

  • Ages 7–16
  • Beginners welcome — we match horses and activities to each rider’s comfort and skill level.

Small Groups, Big Sisterhood

We intentionally keep group sizes small, so every girl gets personalized instruction, meaningful connection and that cozy “we’re in this together” camp feel.

A Setting Straight Out of a Storybook

Our 70-acre ranch sits just minutes from Hartman Creek State Park — rolling fields, wooded trails and starry Wisconsin nights that make campfire stories feel magical.

🌈 Why Parents & Campers Keep Coming Back

Last summer, we welcomed 244 spirited young riders. Girls left with:

  • Stronger riding skills
  • A deeper understanding of horse care
  • New best friends from across Wisconsin
  • Confidence that carries into school, sports and everyday life

One mom told us, “My daughter came home taller — not just in inches, but in spirit.”

We hear that often, and it never stops being meaningful.
